They are like a big coil and you still have to cross them over, but no bow involved. You can get them at City Lights and fairs, but I haven't seen them for a while. They are a novelty. If you look for them--you might see them in the shoe department(a big coil). Velcros flaps are sometimes referred as self-tying shoe laces, but not true. These coils are cute and easy to use and you could not tie them. They are a little hard to get through the holes too.

How can I get my cat to entertain herself while I am gone?
I adopted a 5 month old kitten about 2 weeks ago, and she is the sweetest thing ever! I am worried, though, because I don't think she does anything (except sleep) while I'm at work. I have tried everything I can think of--bought many toys, hung bouncy things from the ceiling, tried to play "treasure hunt" with her by hiding toys and treats around the house (she didn't even search while I was at work), gotten a cat condo, left the TV on animal planet, cut holes into a box and put wads of paper in it, left paper bags out for her to play with, etc. etc. etc. Nothing I do seems to entertain her! When I am at home, she only loves chasing a shoelace around. I am worried because I want her to be semi-self sufficient, and to be able to entertain herself so she's not bored all day long. I cannot get another kitten for her to play with. What more can I do?

Stop stressing about your kitty. I am sure that she is a very happy girl and loves having you for her human. What makes you think she is bored? You sound like you have enough toys and stuff to start your own pet store!
Don't worry about her sleeping alot, cats do that. They sleep more hours thay they are awake. Cats are not like dogs, they don't need constant stimulation or attention. They do get bored, but they can amuse themselves and you have enough toys for her to do that! =)
Enjoy your girl when you are home and know that she is okay while you are gone.

Reply:Honey, cats sleep about 18 hours a day. Mine sleep all day when I am at work. If you are worried, get another cat her age to snuggle up with. Taking care of 2 cats isn't much more work than taking care of one cat.

Reply:aw shes fine.. its just that kittens seem to sleep alot.. when i got my puppy she literally slept all day but now she is 2 years old and very playful and active, your kittens behavior towards her toys will change over time, let her get conforatable in the house first shell warm up and be more playful sooner or later.

as long as u spend quality time playing with her when u are home, that should be fine. if u do want to get another kitten, do it soon so she can acclimate better, but dont leave them alone together until they have been introduced slowly over the course of a week or two.

They are found at wal mart like $5 and they are great my cat loved it!!!! she loves hideing in it and then popping out.. and you can even get two and atttach them together to make it bigger.

One thing I know my cats love, though, are the birdfeeders outside my window. I have a deck outfront with birdfeeders on one side and hanging baskets on the other. Both kitties love sitting in the window watching the birds at the feeders and the hummingbirds that come feed from the flower baskets.
For interactive toys for when you're home get the "Da Bird" cat toy or one of those sticks with feathers and tinsel on the end. Cats and kittens LOVE toys that move and especially so if you're the one moving them!
PS: you sound like quite the doting mom with all the makings of a great cat owner! :)

I personally prefer shoelaces because they have more uses. In a survival situation shoelaces can be turned into some handy tools :)
